How many points are Kilkeary and Shumate scoring next year at nationals, if they even qualify? Todays transfer portal is set up PERFECTLY for Ohio State to take advantage of filling these 2 spots.Īnd hypothetically, let’s say Ohio State landed DeAugustino and Feldcamp this year as their 1 year stop gaps, and let’s say one scored 10 points next year, and the other 13. It’s Tom Ryan’s job to make this team as competitive as it can be along its chartered course, and as things sit today… 125 and 184 are 2 spots that could DESPERATELY use a 1 year stop gap.īoth weight classes’ futures are bright, with Kilkeary coming in and Davino right behind him at 125, and Rogotzke coming in at 184.īut neither are ready to start for this team next year, especially from a logic standpoint relative to their developments. In fact they could potentially may not even qualify. I too feel great about the future up and down the lineup at Ohio State and the overall splits between the weight classes respectively.īut we do have 2 weight classes as they sit right now that are not only question marks, but are 2 weight classes that won’t score at nationals…. I’m not interested in any Nagao or Mesenbrink types who are transfers with multiple years of eligibility left. So yeah my frustration and my posting content relative has several layers to it, let’s just leave it at that lol.Ĭlick to expand.Of course we like what we have coming down the pipe. Even 184 would be ideal for such a move like I said. Both DeAugustino and Caleb Williams would have been ideal, but we allowed them to go to Michigan and Nebraska respectively. We have a giant need for a 1 year stop gap at 125 and 184 and have allowed every top guy to head elsewhere.Įspecially at 125…. You never hesitated to bring in Max Dean when you had Beard already on the roster. Many of our fans will say the black shirts must vote on any portal guy, and the culture is way more important than band aids etc and that drives me insane when the biggest dynasty since Gable’s Iowa’s teams literally just brought in 3 portal guys right after winning another title. This is coming mainly from a frustration I have with Ohio State’s refusal or lack of using the portal. You guys bringing in 3 is just insult to injury considering the level you recruiting high school is on top of it. That wouldn’t piss you off if you are a coach who worked your ass off and got the kids out of high school, taking that type of shortcut?Īnd like I said that doesn’t count with your guys 3 portal lands because you actually really didn’t even need Messebrink but you just said why not and brought him on anyways. That would be FIVE WEIGHTS they plugged with the portal. Jake Woodley was long rumored to be heading there too and they have another need at 197. They aren’t bringing in guys to upgrade great for stars like you guys do, they are replacing gaping holes that this whole portal thing has given them a life line for their past recruiting failures. The fact they have 4 open spots like that shows they didn’t recruit well to get to that point. If Michigan gets Griffin that will be FOUR AA type transfers they plugged in. McSorley I absolutely agree with you, what I said was exaggeratory but it is a thing I guess though that can be frustrating for the coach’s who put all the time and reap the success of high school recruiting, then wait 2 years for them to be ready, and then once ready to unleash them your competitor(s) just go out and replace half their lineup for top guys to level the playing field you worked so hard for to create. This kid however is the perfect example to who was available Ohio State without question could have used, barring he heads elsewhere. Like I’ve been saying in this thread, we just aren’t utilizing the portal for whatever reasons. So in saying all this, I will be surprised to hear Ohio State even mentioned relative. ![]() Sending true freshman Ryder Rogotzke into the fire as a true freshman on the other hand wouldn’t make a whole lot ton of sense contrarily. Shumate at this point (through the process of elimination) makes the only sense who would slot there next season. He could give the Bucks a potential All American, and a returning one for sure, at a weight they will score little to no points at nationals currently if they end up going with Seth Shumate. He finished 7th this past March and was an All American. That besides a 1 year 125 pound stop gap too potentially as well.įeldcamp has just 1 year left, so his timeline along with Ohio State’s in conjunction wouldn’t interfere with any long term plans. This would be about as ideal a fit there is from the portal to add to Ohio State like I’ve been mentioning both from a fit and situational standpoint. Clarion All American 184 pounder Will Feldcamp has just entered the portal.
